BW Broadcast - UK - Transmitter vs. Delivery truck
24/08/2010
(UK) BW Broadcast are well known for making reliable transmitters capable of operating in some of the worlds most remote areas as well as in city's, but when a TX5, the popular 5 watt model, was returned due to 'damage' the team at BW Broadcast in London were astonished to see that in fact the unit had been run over! With tyre marks on the transmitters packaging, it seems the TX5 had come up against a formidable opponent, resulting in the entire rear of the unit being squashed flat! Only the front panel remained unscathed.
Curiosity is said to have killed the cat but at the BW Broadcast HQ, the intrigue was just too much to ignore. After replacing the IEC socket (not the PSU), to allow an IEC lead to be connected to the unit and connecting the transmitter to a dummy load, the unit was powered up.
The TX5 fired up! It was decided that it should be left on test for a couple of hours to get a fair reflection of the effect of the damage and two hours later the TX5 was still running efficiently at 5W. So, despite being run over and effectively crushed, the BW Broadcast TX5 lived up to its reputation of being reliable even in the most surprising circumstances!
The unit despite coming head to head with a vehicle has now taken pride of place in the BW Broadcast product showroom and is also used for testing.
The customer received a new TX5 to ensure product satisfaction and that is now functioning alongside the BW Broadcast DSPX-FM Audio processor with all the proficiency expected from a BW Broadcast product, bringing ancient information over an ultra modern medium to visitors to the Pyramids in Egypt.
